As Love Your Paws continues to evolve, I want to share something important: there are some ways in which we won’t be changing.
I’ve always been fascinated by dog behaviour. I’m currently studying for both my Level 5 and Level 6 in dog behaviour, and I’ve taken many specialised courses over the years. From aggression to separation anxiety, I’ve loved learning how to understand and support dogs with complex needs.
My passion for behaviour started with Sam, my whirlwind of a dog, who came into our lives full of challenges we didn’t fully understand. At the time, I was studying psychology as part of my social work degree, and I began to see how human psychology overlaps with canine behaviour. Helping Sam became my driving force.
But here’s the thing: as much as I love understanding dog behaviour, I also need balance in my life. I manage Sam’s behaviour every day, and my passion for behaviour remains strong outside of work. However, in my professional life, I’ve made the choice to focus on training, because that’s what I truly love. I don’t want to come home to behaviour challenges after a day spent working with them.
What I love most about training is the opportunity to prevent issues before they start. By helping people understand their dogs better—by talking through body language, emotions, and the unique ways dogs see the world—we can often mitigate behavioural problems before they arise. While some challenges are beyond our control, many can be avoided with the right knowledge and support.
